One of the many fine buildings lost over the years during development of Aldridge, The Elm’s Hotel from 1617 in Aldridge pictured here in 1940

First there were Druids, farmers and brick makers who inhabited a sleepy village in the shadow of Barr Beacon where sheep grazed, then came along  the chainmakers and so industry grew, a community grew, untill one day….you discovered Aldridge on a website, how times change !

You are welcome to leave comments here about Aldridge and Streetly area, but please ONLY ADD EVENT INFORMATION ON THE MAIN PAGE ( CLICK THE MAIN PICTURE LOGO AT TOP FOR MAIN PAGE )

Alan, I have had the pleasure of visiting Aldridge on more than one occasion in the past.

    Delightful place.

If I may offer any suggestions to anyone from Aldridge or Streetly who might be visiting the states, I would be pleased to do so.

I live outside of Pittsburgh, Pa as well as Port Charlotte Fl.
    All the best
    Jay

Hullo – I am from Wollongong in NSW Australia & have ancestors who lived in Aldridge area around 1780/1790. These were William Hornblower & Ann his wife (nee Ann Aston). While I don’t expect anyone would now have info. on these families I wondered if anyone had old info. on what Aldridge village may have looked like at this time, the type of agriculture practised & the circumstances generally.
